Intertek Italia highlights Roseco as an example of how used textiles can be recovered, recycled, and transformed into new materials with GRS-verified traceability.
Industry estimates indicate that around 92 million tonnes of textile waste are produced worldwide every year, while less than 1% is transformed into new garments. To put the scale of the issue into perspective, that is a weight equivalent to roughly 9 million elephants being sent to landfill year after year.
Yet this is an enormous waste, because used garments still hold significant value. Their fibres can be recovered, recycled, and transformed into new materials, ready for a second life.
Intertek helps make this transition toward a more circular economy possible. Through the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), developed by Textile Exchange, Intertek verifies and traces recycled content across the entire supply chain. In practice, this system enables material traceability so that claims about recycled content are accurate and verifiable.
A concrete example is Roseco Collect Reuse Recycle Textiles, which transforms textile waste and discarded garments into raw materials for new products. Through Intertek's verification activities, it is possible to confirm that the recycled content used truly matches what has been declared.
